Awesome! I just built a similar rig. Looking forward to playing Rage and BF3 on it.

If you have the extra cash, I'd highly recommend throwing a SSD in there. I have two in my machine (one for Windows and one for Steam). The performance is amazing.

Great rig. I grabbed 2 Kingston v100+'s and I love them. They are on the low end of the SSd market, but they are still smoking for the price. You can find deals on they for about a dollar a gig after rebate which is a pretty good deal for an ssd.

Xenethyl. Why no raid?

Yeah, my hard drives were from my last PC (didn't upgrade them) so they're probably due to be swapped out in the near future.

Rather than selling my old computer and starting from scratch (like I usually do) I just swapped out the mobo, CPU, memory and vid card.

Well, my drives were $250 a piece for 128GB, so I couldn't justify the cost of losing half of my SSD storage space.

Plus, SATA III SSD drives are stupidly fast on their own--I don't really see much point to sticking them in RAID except for redundancy, which I don't need for the stuff I put on the SSD's. I literally do not wait for anything on my machine anymore with these SSD's, so I think RAID would be a waste just for some faster benchmark numbers.

Perhaps. I put mine in striped raid so I didn't lose any space. I also got those extra benchmark numbers. Good deal in my book. They are still smoking fast without raid, just wondering.

Ah, true. I wasn't thinking about striping them. That actually didn't cross my mind at all when I built this a few weeks ago.

I guess in that case it's probably worth it. You won't really run into any errors on an SSD, I don't think, so there's probably minimal risk of data loss (unlike traditional HDD striping). In all honesty though, I don't think you would notice a perceivable difference in performance with general use.

I also kind of like this setup because I have one of the two SSD's devoted entirely to games. That's all I have on it. Technically it doesn't really offer an advantage over a single data pool, but conceptually it feels a bit easier to manage.

Also, as a bit of a sidenote in response to what you said about your SSD's being on the low end: for anyone else that's considering picking up an SSD or two, the difference is really between a traditional HDD and an SSD, not between which SSD you get. Sure, you'll get snappier performance on more recent, SATA III drives, but it won't blow you away compared to a lesser SSD like the jump from an HDD to an SSD would.

Agreed. Adding my SSD's was probably one of the most noticeable and satisfying upgrades I have ever gotten for a PC.

Yep, I agree completely. I really was very surprised by the increased performance.
