So I pulled the trigger on the beginning of a new comp build project. I bought an Intel i7 950 today. That means that I need to get a new mobo and memory. I am also getting a new video card and PSU. Here is what I am looking at:

Video Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 OC 1GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125333
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128456
Memory: Mushkin 3x4GB DDR3 1333 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226096
PSU: Antec 1000W SLI-certified 80-Plus Bronze http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371012

What do you think. Am I missing anything obvious? Any glaring issues?

Looks good.

Make sure the RAM is supported by the motherboard and double check that you can use tri-channel on it.

I have a severe hatred for Gigabyte after the way their customer service treated me when one of their motherboards killed 6 sticks of my RAM, so personally I'd look at a different manufacturer. But there's always going to be bad eggs, so it's personal preference there.

(on that note) I *highly* recommend Corsair memory. They replaced my RAM, despite it not being their fault, with faster stuff.

Thanks for the feedback. While the memory isn't explicitly on the compatibility chart it should work no problem. It is also capable of triple channel.

As for Gigabyte, I currently have one of their boards and have no complaints. I had to RMA a Gigabyte board in the past and was able to talk to a human and got a replacement with little effort. It seems like I hear horror stories about every manufacturer these days. I really think it just comes down to luck of the draw. The reason I picked that board is because it is the cheapest I can find that has a brand I feel that I can trust. The closest next one in price is an Asus for $20 more. I was trying to keep the cost down as much as possible.

What do you think of the video card? Is the 460 worth it or should I just go with an ATI 5770?

Sorry Latex the old stuff is already spoken for. I made sure it was sold before I seriously considered spending the money on the new stuff..

Just to clarify, I meant make sure the motherboard is capable of tri-channel.

Yeah, I agree. If you look hard enough you'll find problems with any manufacturer. I just wanted to share my experience. Personally I'd recommend the Asus, but that's just me.

It looks like the performance on the 460 is a bit better than the 5770. So, depending on prices and whether you have a preference, I'd say go with the Nvidia card.

Nice Dagger....I have the cooler master case and the Gigabyte motherboard and also had that same cooler master fan....but had to use fan that came with Gigabyte because they failed to tell me that some boards need a adapter. I sent mine back and just a thought you may check to see if that one works for you as well.

Thanks. It says that the CoolerMaster heatsink works for pretty much every new CPU including the LGA1366 CPU socket. There is actually a YouTube video showing how to install it and how to adjust it for the exact cpu that you have. I'll let you know how it goes when I install it.

Dagger, is there anything you don't like about your current build? This is pretty dangerous but I've queued up a wish list of items for a new build when I realized my machine was 3.5 years old this morning lol. I'm stuck in DDR2 on the current system with 4 GB right now. I'm hoping a new vid card + PSU will hold me over for a few months until I can swap out the mobo for DDR3 and a i7. I already had my eye on the mobo you bought anyway (I'm a big ASUS fanboy for mobos) and looking at the MSI GTX 460. I just need to make sure there is nothing funky about the PSU you bought in your build above and make sure it will be good in my current rig. Oh and do you feel like your mobo has enough room for two 460s? If I can swing the money, I'd seriously consider dropping another 460 in there mid next year I think.

My PSU is rock solid. it's kind of a pain in the case since it's on the bottom. Nearly impossible to do proper cable management.

As for the mobo don't get it. 1366 is dead. intel moved the new i5's and i7's to the 1155.

I love my 460, but it's OC'd from the factory. The range of speeds on the 460 is giant. mine has a 765core so keep that in mind while shopping.

Good point on the motherboard.

Dagger's right--don't lock yourself into a 1366 socket this late in its life cycle.
