Anyone else have a 64 bit OS here? I really don't want to get Vista. I'd rather get XP 64 bit or win7 64 bit. I figured I should upgrade soon since my rig can handle it (at least I think it can) and more programs are being made to optimize 64-bit systems.

I've been running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 since August without any problems whatsoever. You're only going to run into trouble if you have ancient hardware like a really old printer. Otherwise the drivers have caught up, for the most part.

I've been using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 for a while as well. It works fine. Don't try to use XP x64. It blows.

Okay thanks for the heads up. I'm also curious about what kind of difference DirectX 10 will make. And how do you guys already have windows 7? Is it retail or the beta?

MSDN RTM.

DX10 hasn't made much of a difference because most all of the games that use it are programmed to be backwards compatible and thus haven't implemented many of the new features.

What is that? I tried searching but I couldn't find a clear answer as to what exactly it is.

Microsoft Developer's Network. This is where microsoft houses a lot of their products for software development companies so they can test how their product works in the various MS environments. RTM just means release to media which is an industry term for "put this release on a cd because we're done making additions to the release candidate". In a sense the RTM is most likely exactly the same as what you'll buy when you go to the stores.

And if it gets changed between now and the retail launch the changes will be available via Windows Update.

If you have a MSDN account you can. Some of us have access through our employers and Fox has it because of his development work he does.

Note that MSDN itself is not free. The software provided through MSDN is free, though.
