Putting together a PC for a friend, just wondering what to get him..... With what I read, its looken like... Intel quad or core 2 duo 4 gigs of ram (windows xp max) 150 video card (newegg) 2 raptor HDD 700psu prob p35 or better Looking for some tips, don't tell me to get him a mac, aint happen!! Fox or bengal could probably chime in on this better than myself, but I'm assuming if he's using Premiere CS4 he'd want the quad core. If he's only planning on using Photoshop (and the other programs in the suite) he could probably get away with the dual core.

What whiz mentioned is pretty much what should be looked at. Also note that Photoshop CS4 is capable of improving the performance of filters via GPU rendering (openGL), so that's another thing to keep in mind.

Plus you only need 4gb+ of ram if you are going to use a 64bit operating system. Else 3gb is the max amount of ram a 32bit system can address.

after all my research, I have come to find core 2 duo is whats best for photoshop... The only thing left is an OS........ Should i use vista w/sp1 or xp w/sp3 ?????

photoshop is the only app in the master collection that has 64-bit I think.
64-bit vista with quad and 8gb of ram.

Vista Ultimate sp1 8 gigs of ram it is!!
Yes photoshop has a 64bit app!
Letcha guys knows, how it goes!?!
