Post subject:  BIOS issues.

I am having issues pulling up my bios. When the machine boots, I press F2 but nothing happens. It doesn't even give me the option to go into bios. When I first assembled the machine I didn't have any issues, now I can't get into the bios. Second, it doesn't boot off of a cd now, which is odd to me. How can I get this system to allow me to enter the bios or give me the option?

Cut power to power supply, remove the ATX & 4 or 6 pin power connector to the board, remove CMOS battery and let stand for a minute. Put things back together and turn on . See what happens

Sounds silly also, but could be a vid card problem. If it wont display video its not going to look like anything is happening - when its really booting?

I will try to reset the bios by disconnecting battery. I see XFX on the screen before it goes to boot up. It used to ask me if I wanted to go into bios on this screen if I remember right. As soon as the system starts I start tapping F2 even before the XFX image so I wouldn't think it is a video card problem.... but I don't know.

I also downloaded a bios update, maybe that will do something?

Is your keyboard USB or PS2? All BIOS (that I'm aware of) used on motherboards today have an option to disable legacy USB support. Essentially this means no keyboard use during the boot sequence. If you turned that off, you would either need to use a PS2 keyboard to get into the BIOS and change the setting, or clear the CMOS as Todd noted.

I tried both actually :( I will tinker with it tonight when I get home. Maybe I should punch the monitor, that always seems to fix things.

On my way into work today, I was thinking... Do you think there is any way it could be a jumper on the wrong pins? I have not moved or touched that jumper yet, but why would it allow me to view bios one day and not the other...?

you had a good thought earlier, you might want to check your mobo manual for the bios reset jumper if it has one, and make sure it is set correctly
