You should see your Wii glowing... this indicates you have received a message (or a Mii technically). The message is from Nintendo telling you the News channel is now available! There is an update button on the message.
The update took about 5 minutes for me and then once you load into the News channel, took about 2 minutes to download all the RSS feeds and pics. Pretty cool stuff.
